He's surrounded by boys who welcome him to the Glade - a walled encampment at the centre of a bizarre and terrible stone maze. Like Thomas, the Gladers don't know why or how they came to be there - or what's happened to the world outside. All they know is that every morning when the walls slide back, they will risk everything - even the Grievers, half-machine, half-animal horror that patrol its corridors, to try and find out.

Dystopian goals

This book introduced me to the Dystopian genre. I loved every second of it. It was action packed yet extremely detailed. Highly recommend.

The Maze Runner (Review)

This book is good, but I liked the movie better. The writing is simple and I no problem with that. In fact I prefer simpler style over purple prose and excess poetic descriptions. The writing did service to the plot. The concept of maze is super unique and the mystery is what keeps you going through the pages. The fearful unknown. The dystopian part was not too clear, since this is the first book. So I see it more like a YA mystery than a futuristic dystopia.

Thomas was a good character and we have entire array of other boys in the maze. This is where my problem lies. The characters were not as compelling as I would have liked. Maybe add a little more nuance, and development would have done wonders. The romance was not developed well and I couldn't care less for Thomas and Tessa.
