SPRINGTIME WITH FROG AND TOAD

Three classic stories by the late Arnold Lobel about the friendship between a frog and a toad in pants, doesn't seem to be appropriate reading for a bearded pensioner like me. I have published 8 books in the juvenile fiction category and know kids aren't fooled. Nor are the wrinklies.
I challenge anyone to read any of the Frog and Toad books without nbeing deeply and sincerely moved. My children are grown up with kids of their own and have probably got a battered Frog and Toad book in their homes somewhere. These are not books that go to the jumble sale.
What makes F & T so appealing? In a world rife with false this and misleading that, not to mention all sorts of ideological tripe, Frog and Toad stories just ring true.
Yes, they are sentimental, but we all need a little Awww! in our lives and maybe we humans can learn a thing or two about real freindship from a couple of lily pond dwellers.
